MARCH 25TH 2021
Biggest first, I added an F.A.Q page and changed around the navigation bar to split into two lines instead of one. I don't like the aesthetic as much, but to preserve the animated letter spacing and not have everything get really weird, I had to make a compromise somewhere!
I added my SubscribeStar and Gumroad links very prominently on the bottom of the homepage; to pique folks' curiosity more than be bothersome about it. I want to peddle my wares but not in an invasive way, y'know? I also added a notice to the top of my Commission page, stating that I'm closed indefinitely to any new work - I have a long backlog that I want to try and chew through before I consider taking on newer work.
On the art and writing front, I added some new work to my Gallery and Sketchlog pages, and a new short story, Abroad Ardor. I've also shipped The Summoning off to a few beta readers after doing a few rounds of cursory edits - it's clocked in at over 71k words so far, and I'm really excited to share it; hopefully soon!
JANUARY 24TH 2021
Oh god lots of little quality of life changes adding up to one big-ish update.
I finally decided to fiddle with my nav links; a bunch of stuff was getting hidden in places where people weren't clicking, so I decided to fix that. Probably won't stop people from asking where my commission information is, but, what can you do, right?
My Fiction page got an overhaul, and since my last update, two more stories have been added to it in the Black Stag setting- Good Morning, and Pen Names. They both have art accompaniments, and I did a lot of different things with Pen Names as far as aesthetics are concerned. I'm very pleased with the results.
The Index page also got a makeover; I made the summaries for The Summoning and Black Stag - White Doe much more visually distinct from the rest of the page, hopefully to draw the eye there. Speaking of: I've almost completed the first (final) draft of The Summoning, and I'm really excited to get it done and shared. :D Once it's ready for that, I'll start sharing a chapter a week until it's all been posted - or if you're impatient, it can be grabbed from my Gumroad page.
Not much else going on... I've been looking at email newsletters again to amp up that fuck-the-corporate-internet aesthetic I've been cultivating for the last year, lol. I've also been finding a re-emerging interest in fandom-adjacent stuff; if that takes me much farther I was considering making a few sub-sections on here dedicated to any fanart/fanfiction I might cook up.
NOVEMBER 7TH 2020
I split off my artwork gallery from my fiction gallery! :D There's now a Fiction link up in the navigation bar, and I also wiggled the order of the links around for, hopefully, easier navigation. Feels a little more balanced now.
So far, Masquerade, The Summoning's excerpt, and a new short, As Long As Possible are on that page - I hope to have one or two more shorts from the Black Stag - White Doe setting done to round it out before 2020 ends, but! For now I'm very happy with it, and I'm happy I've been able to write two things to share this year at all.
AUGUST 28TH 2020
Having a news page was always something I thought about in the early aughts, when I was a kiddo on the internet in the days before mainstream content aggregation websites and corporate social media sites. Like Twitter and Tumblr and Facebook. Pinterest. Probably many others that I'm forgetting. But they're all pretty forgettable, if I'm being very honest in how I think of social media and the mainstream internet. It's all very yuck, to me.
Social media seems to only bring out the worst in me. It brings to the surface the kind of person that wants to snap off "witty", scathing, authoritative remarks about subjects that, while I do have a lot of knowledge about, are not suited for discussion on a site with a 280 character limit and no limit to how far it can spread out of context. Or sites that explicitly shove inflammatory things on your feed because the algorithms encourage engagement above all else. "Engagement". The word just makes my skin crawl.
To that end, I've been looking towards the past and doing what a seems anathema to a lot of folks online today: learning how to code as a hobby, and putting a lot love and elbow grease into coding this website as a home base. Especially in the last couple months. It's a professional site to be sure - but it's not meant to be a shiny place to show industry professionals, for industry jobs. Maybe I'll make a really simple secondary website for that, if I ever decide I want to put my foot in that particular door.
But this site - is meant to be for me. Elegant but maybe a little messy. Constantly in flux, but not chaotically so. At least - I hope not. I have an image to maintain in some respects, haha.
Not every news post will be a behemoth like this one; this is just getting the party started and providing some context. Also, I have to have a certain amount of text to push the content box down the whole length of the page because the CSS is a little itty bitty bit spaghetti and I'm just too damned too lazy to fix it.
On to the actual news bits: this page is very obviously brand new as of the date up top, but! I've also added a new Sketchlog page, shuffled some of the art around in my Gallery to that page, and I want to bring attention to the recently added Subscribestar Guide - for those adult content creators who need a place to call home that won't boot them the second they dip into more unconventional territory with their fiction.
A bit of an older update, but I've also added my Terms of Service and my Commission Prices pages back here too, for those folks that are looking for that kind of info. :)
That's all for now! ♥
