Ila and Idris
Ila and Idris are a pair of characters my husband and I have played around with together since mid-2017. At the time of their creation they were very, very tragic and sad characters whose romance never came to fruition, who I felt like weren't allowed to have any kind of loving connection because of their familial relationship.
Except...all I really ever wanted was tender, unconventional romance between characters whose love is undeniable, but a tragedy of circumstance. And, because of that circumstance, they must fight tooth and nail for their fairytale ending. Ila and Idris are my proof of concept that such stories can exist in the way that I need them to be written.
These characters exist in two main storylines which share zero overlap: the Smoke and Silk Duet, a paranormal gothic romance, and Blood Metal, a standalone contemporary metal band romance.
IDRIS ABDUL-RAHEEN FAHEEM AL-FASIH
Idris is, or appears to be, a man in his late 60's to mid 70's, of Sudanese/Lebanese descent, and stands at a towering seven and a half feet tall, either due to not being human or because he has a condition called gigantism. It depends on the setting.
The main constant between Blood Metal and the Smoke and Silk Duet is his sleeve of red rose tattoos, topped with a white tail deer skull on his shoulder.
Body modifications of note in Blood Metal that are not present in the duet include: a septum piercing, eyebrow and snakebite piercings, and a Prince Albert piercing.
He is practical and stalwart; favoring logic and reason over emotional reactivity. Despite this, he is not someone who scoffs at displays of emotion and is extremely gentle and tenderhearted--especially where it concerns his daughter, Ila. Despite his romantic love for her, he tries to be her parent first.
His first language is Levantine Arabic, he knows enough French to carry on a basic conversation, and his second primary language is English with a thick Arabic accent.
ILA IDRIS ABDUL-RAHEEN FAHEEM AL-FASIH
Ila is, or appears to be, a woman in her mid 20's to early 30's, stands at an average five and a half feet tall, and has a genetic disorder called oculocutaneous albinism and most of the impairments that come with that.
Her body modifications in both the Smoke and Silk Duet and Blood Metal include: a centered lip piercing, a septum nose piercing, and nipple bar piercings.
She is a firecracker with a determination that can scare even Idris. She is more emotional than logical and deals with a lot of anxiety, but despite that she tries to be practical and not let her emotional state rule her every action or reaction. Sometimes she fails, but that's the beauty of being human: contradiction is around every corner.
She is extremely compassionate, sometimes a little naive, and has a short fuse with regard to her temper.
Her only known language is English. She can understand Idris when he speaks fluent Arabic, but she can't speak enough of it to carry on a conversation with him.
